What do Austrians think about AI and tools like ChatGPT? Explore the intricate sentiments and concerns revealed in a recent survey, alongside the potential benefits and drawbacks that AI could bring to the workplace and education sectors.
A recent PwC survey conducted among 1,001 Austrians uncovers mixed feelings towards AI and AI tools such as ChatGPT. While 63% of respondents believe that AI applications will revolutionize society, particularly in the workplace and education sectors, 67% have little trust in AI applications and find their increasing presence alarming. Concerns include the potential use of AI for fraudulent activities (78%), the spread of misinformation (77%), privacy issues (67%), and threats to societal rights like freedom of speech (67%).
In terms of job security, 63% of participants think that AI and AI applications like ChatGPT could threaten numerous jobs in Austria, with 37% believing that their own jobs could be partially or completely replaced. Interestingly, 50% of Gen Z respondents are worried about their own job security. Despite these concerns, 57% of respondents see the benefits of AI in making work more efficient, and 40% would like to see AI's advantages harnessed to facilitate work.
Regarding education, almost three-quarters (73%) of Austrians believe that the increasing use of AI applications like ChatGPT could negatively impact education, including the educational level of young people. Consequently, nearly two-thirds (64%) support a ban on the use of ChatGPT and other AI applications in schools, universities, and other educational institutions.
