Life is shifting further and further into the digital world, or rather the analog world is being complemented by the digital one. Just as the Internet changed society a few decades ago, AI will now bring about a significant change. How we face this as the European Union, the state and the individual now needs to be defined. With the proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised rules on Artificial Intelligence (AI Act for short), the European Union is setting a first milestone around the regulation, definition and approach to artificial intelligence.

On the occasion of the current call for a moratorium on the development of artificial intelligence, the European AI Forum publishes the following statement:

On 6 December 2022, the Council of the European Union has adopted its common position (general approach) on the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). Upon the adoption of the general approach the Council can now enter into negotiations with the European Parliament (so-called trilogues), once the Parliament adopts its own position with a view to reaching an agreement on the proposed AI Act.
